Its about to get real on a Friday! Today the book is talking about making a plan for your life. Jim Rohn American entrepreneur, once said,
If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.
Most people allow their lives to simply happen to them. They wait. They react and by the time a large portion of their life is behind them, they realize they should have been more proactive and strategic. We need to have a stronger sense of urgency to create a plan to grow, learn, and accomplish what we want to accomplish in life. The book talks about ways to do that.
- Life Is Meant to Be Simple, But Keeping It That Way Is Very Difficult – Life is about knowing your values, making some key decisions based off of those values, and then managing your day to day decisions to be in alignment with them. Life has a way of becoming very complicated. But it is mostly us that complicates the hell out of it.
K.I.S.S.- Keep It Simple Stupid
- Designing Your Life Is More Important Than Designing Your Career – Planning your life is about finding yourself, knowing who you are, and then customizing a design for your growth. “Once you draw the blueprint for your life, you can apply it to your career.”
- Life Is Not a Dress Rehearsal – there is no warm up in the game of life. There is also no dress rehearsal. But yet, some people seem to treat it that way. Life is about figuring it out as we go along sometimes. That can be messy. We fail. We make mistakes. But we still need to do our very best from the start.
- In Planning for Life, multiply by Two – the important things in life take longer and cost more money that we normally anticipate. So when you think something is going to take an hour, plan for double so you can stay out of trouble.
Most accomplishments in life come more easily if you approach them strategically. A half ass approach will never succeed. Any time a non-strategic approach works, its not repeatable. “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.” It is as simple as that. I want you to think of the last time you worked on a project at home, school, work, or anywhere else, where you put your heart and soul into planning and executing everything out perfectly. Remember the results? They were probably pretty amazing. That is simply what life is all about as well. Having a plan. Knowing your strategy. And then, following it! Simple rules, for a simple and happy life.
