Statistics have shown that Tuesday is a fantastic day for someone to do something great.  Make it count.  This book lately has been all about steering clear of self-centeredness and adding value to the lives of others.  Do you have the desire to help other people and add value to them?  Are you willing to cultivate that desire so that it is more proactive?  John C gives us 5 important insights on how to make that happen.

1. To add value to others I must first value myself- one of my favorite quotes is that “you increase your net worth when you increase your self-worth.”  I continue to repeat this quote and harp on my children daily about having a high sense of self-worth, and how believing in themselves is one of THE greatest keys to life’s success.  “How we see ourselves regulates what we consistently do, and our regular behavior is what defines us, not what we might do on a rare occasion.”  Self-image dictates daily behavior.  How we see ourselves is how we will see others as well.  “We don’t see people as they are; we see people as we are.”

Brian Tracy once said: “There is a direct relationship between your own level of self-esteem and the health of your personality.”  I don’t think that quote could have been more spot on.  The more you like and respect yourself, the more you will like and respect other people.  The more you consider others to be valuable, the more you will consider others to be valuable as well.  Have you ever really been in the mood to uplift and inspire people when you are feeling depressed and unmotivated?  NEVER!  On the contrary, how many times have you felt great in one way or another and you want to share it with others?

“Positive thinking does not build self-image.  Positive acts do.”  There is obviously nothing wrong with positive thinking, but they have to be followed with positive acts.  Try to remember the last time you did something great for someone and you did not feel amazing after doing it.  Your self-worth increases every time you add value to someone else’s life.  If you are wondering whether you value yourself enough to add value to others, ask yourself the question, “Am I the type of person with who I would like to spend the rest of my life with?”  If you don’t, then you have some work to do.
