In today’s blog post, I would like to begin by talking about Steve Cannell. Steve was someone who had failed multiple times in his life, he failed 1st, 4th, and 10th grade. He struggled during his schooling with testing, regardless, of how much time he put into studying. After one of the failed tests, he asked one of his friends how long, he had studied, his friend responded that he had not even opened the book. This causes Steve to make a decision not to study from that point on, rather, he decided to focus his talents on football.
Overtime and practice, Steve began to be a great football player. He later earned a scholarship to play football for college. After he had graduated his from his collegiate career, he began writing scripts for major television shows, which will be familiar to many who are subscribed to this blog. Some of his most popular television shows are as follows:

- 21 Jump Street
- The Great American Hero
- The Rockford Files
After much success in the entertainment industry, he would then move on to a business of writing books. Steve may have struggled and failed early on in life, but despite failing he didn’t give up. He is a true example of responding to his weaknesses positively, and overcoming them through hard work. Steve is an example of responding to a negative situation, and turning it into a personal strength, which led to a very fruitful and successful career.
If you desire to be successful, begin to look at your life in a way that you can turn negative thinking into positive action.
Do you say the phrase ‘I can’t’ more often than you say ‘I can?’ If you find you are more negative in your self-belief, than you are only dragging yourself down. You need to change your negative behavior into something that will empower you in a positive manner. Jack Canfield travels around the country hosting seminars, at these seminars he often uses the example of kinesiology—the study of the mechanics of body movements.
Canfield, will have every attendee in these seminars stand up and hold out his or her arms. He will go around and push down on each person’s arms and have them think of something he or she cannot do. As Canfield is pushing down each attendee’s arms, he has them state that thing, which they believe they cannot do, and every time when the attendee states what they cannot do, their arms grow weak. Canfield will then do the opposite and ask what they can do while pushing down their arms, and without fail they grow stronger and resist Canfields negative force. They empower themselves to resist the negative feedback from Canfield and push forward as they focus on what they can do.
It is important for you, as a reader, to understand you can do so many things. You have so much potential, but oftentimes you might think ‘I will do it tomorrow’ or ‘I cannot do this task because it is too difficult.’ Push away these negative thoughts, strive to be the best you can be and focus on the things you can do. As you do this, you will start to see your mindset will be strengthened and you will slowly be able to remove those ‘cant’s’ from your life, and become successful.
Don’t allow yourself to become complacent, but rather, strive every day to be able to accomplish tasks you feel you normally could never accomplish. Remember Steve? He did exactly this and was able to show the world, and more importantly, himself that he could be successful. Success will come, because you choose to focus on the positive and push negativity out of your life. Make the choice RIGHT NOW to change your way of thinking, and go be successful.
