Today it is Tuesday, all freaking day. And it feels so good. Today we continue to talk about getting the most out of growing by having a strategy in the process.

  1. Effective Systems Include Measurement – Jack Welch said that “strategy is first trying to understand where you sit in today’s world. Not where you hoped you would be or wish you were. But where you are. Then it’s trying to understand where you want to be five years out. Finally, it’s assessing how to get from here to there.” Knowing where you are, where you want to be, and the chances of getting there each have something in common. They are all measurable. Any kind of process requires the ability to measure. And for that reason, your systems must require a way to measure your results. John C. Maxwell gives the example of when he first moved to Atlanta and he could not believe the traffic system there. It seemed to be 10 years behind the growth of the city. So what he did was search out alternative routes and he timed each one of them to measure which one of them was the quickest.

Measurement is the first step that leads to control and eventually improvement.

If you can’t measure something, you can’t understand it. If you can’t understand something, you can’t control it. If you can’t control it, you can’t improve it. Measurement makes a difference. It enables you to make goals, evaluate progress, judge results, and diagnose problems.

  1. Effective Systems Include Application – He starts this part by talking about building a house. If you had the most amazing blue prints for the most spectacular house, but you had no plans to ever build, what would be the point? What are we going to do now? It is not enough just to plan. Even though planning is important. The plan creates the track. The action provides the traction. So any time you don’t think you are going to hit your goal, don’t adjust the goal. Adjust the action steps.

I believe that most of the world sits around and plans and waits, and plans and waits. They have such a good plan in place, but then they wait for the perfect time to execute it! Well guess what peeps? There is never a perfect time. The starts are never going to align perfectly. As I have said before, the time is NOW! And YOU are the right person to execute it!
