Here we go, again. Doing everything we can to take over the world, all while maintaining a balance of family, God, and health. Martin Seligman once said,

When it comes to positive psychology, there are three major components: pleasure, engagement, and meaning.

In his study, he says that people who pursue just pleasure experience only part of the benefits that happiness brings. While those that lead their lives with pleasure, engagement, and meaning live the fullest lives. Aristotle used the term eudaimonia, which doesn’t mean happiness, it means human flourishing. “This acknowledges that happiness is not all about yellow smiley faces and rainbows. Happiness is the joy we feel striving after our potential.”

The chief engine to happiness is positive emotions. Barbara Fredrickson, the leading expert in this subject, describes the ten most common positive emotions:

  • Joy
  • Gratitude
  • Serenity
  • Interest
  • Hope
  • Pride
  • Amusement
  • Inspiration
  • Awe
  • Love

This creates a far better picture than the smiley faces and rainbows. “Happiness is more than just a good feeling, it is also an indispensable ingredient of our success.” As we have said before, success comes after we have made the decisions and followed through with the actions to be happy.

Happy workers have higher levels of productivity, produce higher sales, perform better in leadership positions, and receive higher performance ratings and higher pay. The facts prove that those who are happy are less likely to take sick days and without a doubt have more job security. “Happy CEO’s are more likely to lead teams of employees who are both happy and healthy.” We will continue to go back to this concept time and time again throughout the course of the next month or so, and drive home the idea that

happiness is literally the key to long term success
