I wanted to veer from The Happiness Advantage just for a second, and share with each of you the principle that I learned today in my other studies. Because this is a principle, which I cannot even begin to tell you, how joyful your life will be if you live it. The first part of the principle is to tell people you are thankful for them. Genuinely, express to them the difference they make in your life. The second part of the principle is to look for ways to compliment people. Their clothes, their hair, their work performance, etc. Look for ways to brighten people’s day, and your day will be brightened as well. Now, we continue our discussion with The Happiness Advantage.

The ruling powers continue to tell us that if we just put our nose to the grindstone, and work hard now, we will be successful, and therefore happier, in some distant future.

As we work towards our goal, happiness either becomes irrelevant, or easily dispensable and only to be won after a lifetime of toil. Some even go to the lengths of treating happiness as a weakness, and a sign that we are not working hard enough.

“The most successful people, the ones with the competitive edge, don’t look to happiness as some distant reward for their achievements, nor grind their days on neutral or negative; they are the ones who capitalize on the positive, and reap the rewards at every turn.”

Are we the type of person that has to Google what happiness means? When I decided to Google it myself, I was amazed at how many different versions of the definition I found. Truth is, Google can’t help you understand the true meaning of happiness. Why? Because happiness is relative to the person that is experiencing it. “In essence, the best judge of how happy you are is you.”

Which brings us back to the same thing we have been preaching over the last several months, happiness is a choice. Which means that success is a choice as well. If you want to be happy, choose to be happy by doing the things that bring you happiness. Spiritual growth, physical and mental health, strong and rich relationships, financial freedom, and continual education are where I would begin if I were you. Go and try it today. Go out of your way to compliment others. Go out of your way to be grateful. Go out of your way to be happy.

Yours truly,

Going out of my way for days, Cram
